Yet another ask ... this time I mailed it too.

Dear Rob,
I, as always, would like to have a response from you.

I agree with Michael Geist and do not want to see this clause:

a program that is installed by or on behalf of a person to prevent, detect, investigate, or terminate activities that the person reasonably believes (i) present a risk or threatens the security, privacy, or unauthorized or fraudulent use, of a computer system, telecommunications facility, or network, or (ii) involves the contravention of any law of Canada, of a province or municipality of Canada or of a foreign state;

incorporated into the anti spam legislation
Do not give rights to companies that you would not give to citizens.

Thank you,

More Bill C-11

I sent this on March 8 2012. Now I know he is really working hard because he keeps falling asleep. So maybe he won't have a chance to get back to me.

Hello Rob,
I would like you to consider Michael Geists recomendations when debating Bill C-11. Please take great care when debating this issue and realize that the decisions you are making on this issue will have great impact on not only our current situation with music books and movies but will play a critical role in the near future with the impact of 3D printing on our society. Please consider this paper to understand the possible future impacts of Bill C-11.

1.   No SOPA-style amendments. That means no website blocking, no warrantless disclosure of subscriber information, no expanded enabler provision, no unlimited statutory damages, no iPod tax, and no content takedowns.

2.   Maintain the fair dealing balance found in C-11 by expanding the provision to include education, parody, and satire and relying on the Supreme Court's six-factor test to ensure that the dealing is fair.

3.   Amend the digital lock rules by following the Canadian Library Association's recommended change linking circumvention to actual copyright infringement.

Please set our country up to take advantage of new business models and not just protect old dying business models.

Thank You

P.S. I'm sure you will find a chance to respond to this one. Surely you are at least opening these emails I send.

Lawful Access

I sent this to Rob on Feb 14 2012 ...Happy Valentines day! ...

Hello Rob,
I would like to voice my opinion that I do not think the Lawful Access bill should be passed. I do not believe that complete access to communications without a warrant should be available. As well by forcing ISP's to implement this they will undoubtedly use it for their own purposes. I think there is a better way.
I look forward to your response :)

Hello Rob,
I would like to voice my dessention to the digital locks part of the
c-11 bill. I do not think it serves the best interests of Canadians.
Please take the time to review and ammend this legislation to not
include digital locks. If I purchase a song, I should own the right to
play that song and be able to play it on whatever medium I choose.

Thank You

acknowledging that you at least received this note.

But he is really swamped. I know he is working hard because he can hardly stay awake at work ...

I sent this to Rob on 10/20/11 ...

Hello Rob,
I do not want you to vote in favor of Bill C-11 as it stands. This is a good bill with the exception of the digital locks clauses. Please do not support this bill as it is as it is not in the interest of your constituency.

Thanks for your time,
Jim McDonald

Police access to data

I sent this to Rob on 6/18/09

Dear Rob Anders,
I am concerned about the bill proposed to allow police access to internet data. I totally agree that the police should have access to peruse whatever data they need but I believe it must be backed by a warrant. It is unjust and allows too much power in the hands of the police to allow the state to listen in on any communications without reason to be suspicious of the individual.

P.S. I have a bet with my wife as to whether you will acknowledge the receipt of this email. I believe you will not respond and she has faith that you will. We both hope and wish that you would.

But he did not have time to respond. I sure he must have been busy.

Acta

I sent this to Rob on 6/11/2008...

Hello Rob,
I live in Wildwood, (XXXXXXX to be exact). I have heard that the Canadian Government is planning to implement this agreement. I'd like to ask first if it is true and second if and when I might be able to read this act. From the snippets I've heard it sounds like it may give powers to people whom I don't believe should have them but I will hold back any such judgment until I've actually read what is being proposed.
Thank you for your time.
